FEBRUARY RECAP:
Winter marches on, but by the looks of things it is still waiting to start. February was lovely!
We were entertained this month by Bob Dalton, Touch of Joy, Carol Gent, and John Magee. Monica B. also entertained us with a piano concert. The residents really enjoy the musical entertainment.
On February 3rd we had a Super Bowl party. Evelyn D. won a chocolate bar for guessing the score. We played “Name the team” games as well as football pony. We tried our hand at throwing a pass through the goal post. That was a lot of fun! After all that excitement we were treated to chicken wings, cheese and crackers, chip and dip, cocktail wieners and other assorted goodies. It was a good day all the way around. Most of us picked the giants to win.
Every Monday we have baking group. This month we made blackberry and apple bars. Everything was delicious. On February 7, we celebrated “Go Red For Women” and sported red ribbons. Our discussion about heart disease was very informative.
On Thursdays we are enjoying an afternoon matinee “The Help”; “A Dolphin Tale”, and “Marley and Me”. Marley and Me was our February Book Club choice to read aloud.
We got to experience Zumba in February. We will be doing Zumba every Thursday morning in the month of March.
Valentine’s Day was a chocolate explosion. The staff prepared all kinds of chocolate treats for our enjoyment. In the evening we were entertained by Bob Magee.
The residents celebrated Mardi Gras with lots of games and beads. Joel treated us to traditional Binegts.
Hope you all had a great February. Spring is just around the corner.
MARCH HAPPENINGS:
Zumba is starting here at The Terrace on Thursday mornings at 9:00. What a great exercise program this is going to be. st
On March 1 we will be going to the Newark High School for its Musical Production of “Kiss Me Kate”. Following the play we are having dinner at the school. Sounds like a full evening.
March madness hits here on March 13. We are having our own basketball tournament (foul shooting). If you would like to join us on the fun of this single elimination tourney see Gigi. The tournament will last all month. Everybody shoots is our goal.
St. Patrick’s Day will be lots of fun. We are getting a visit from “Steps of Faith” Dance Group at 6:00 pm on March 15. Maybe some Irish dancing! Kit Fallon is here to entertain us on Saturday, March 17 with some Irish Fiddler Music. We will be wearing green on Friday the 16th to celebrate St. Pats Day – lots of fun and games, and maybe a scavenger hunt.
During the week of March 19 – March 23 we are celebrating “Wellderly Week.” Prizes and certificates will be given to those seniors “Who don’t act their age”.
Carol Gent and John, Touch of Joy, and Monica B. will be entertaining us this month. We will continue reading during book club, baking every Monday, quilt club, as well as working on word games to keep our minds sharp.
We will be traveling to Phelps on March 22, to visit “Toothpick Towers”. These are world towers reconstructed in toothpicks. We will also be enjoying a fish fry at the Newark VFW on Friday, March 23.
Looks like a busy March – Spring really is around the corner!

January Recap:
Where has our winter been?I am sure many of you are thinking the same thing. If you get a chance to look, the daffodils are up about 4 inches by the front door entrance of the Terrace. It won’t be long!
The month of January seemed to fly. We were treated to musical concerts by Monica B., Touch of Joy, Bobby Magee, and Ray Braselton. We have started a Thursday Movie Matinee. The Residents have enjoyed more current releases such as “The Help” and “Dolphin Tail”. It has been a really popular activity.
On January 16, we remembered Dr. Martin Luther King by reading parts of his auto biography, especially the “I have A Dream” speech. It was very moving to hear it its entirety.
During January we shopped at Wal-Mart and the large JoAnne Fabrics store in Canandaigua. (We will be doing lots of Valentine’s in February.) We also went out for dinner, and had a great scenic ride to the Sodus area. We talked about returning in the spring to see the apple blossoms.
We celebrated many birthdays in January. In particular Red D., who turned 94 yrs. Red is the oldest living WWII veteran in Wayne County. A story about Red was featured on WHAM Channel 13’s “Bright Spot.” Red & his family were also featured on the front page of the Wayne Post. Congratulations Red and thank you for your service. You truly are one of “The Greatest Generation.”
We would also like to congratulate Ed & Doris K., on 71 years of marriage. They were also featured in the Wayne Post. Ed says the secret to their long marriage is…..solving their problems before going to bed at night.
Lastly, we would like to let everyone know about the new pool table in the C wing living room. The residents have been having a great time shooting pool. Others are having a good time simply watching. Feel free to join in on the fun.

December Recap:
It certainly is festive here at the Newark Terrace. We have been enjoying the holiday season even though the weather sometimes reminds us of spring.
We started December by being entertained by “Touch of Joy”. As the month progressed, we kept the holiday spirit going by listening to “John Dapeno”, Ray Braselton and Carol Grant and Monica.
We visited the Granger Homestead in Canandaigua (several times!), to view “The Festival of Trees”. Over 100 decorated trees and wreaths were on display. We plan on visiting again next year and maybe even displaying a tree from “The Newark Terrace.”
The studio for the Performing Arts danced for us on Sunday Dec.18th. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts dropped by with carols, cards, and ornaments. We have a lot of talented young people here in Newark.
Many homes in the area are beautifully lit & decorated up this time of the year, and we really enjoyed ourselves on our trips to see “Local Lights”. We even shared some good laughs at some over the top light displays.
Christmas would not be the same without Christmas cookies. On December 21st we were proud to deliver a plate of “homemade” Christmas cookies and fudge to every resident here at the Terrace. Our oven has been very busy over the past 2 weeks! There were lots of smiles, and happy faces when our own Santa, Dick S. appeared at each door with a plate of goodies. Speaking of Santa, on Sunday Dec. 11th, our 65 family members and guests came for our Holiday Party. Santa was on hand to hear wishes, and spread holiday cheer to all of our residents. Thank you all for coming and bringing your beautiful children & grandchildren. It was a treat for everyone.

December looks to be very busy. We will be visiting the Granger Homestead in Canandaigua for The Festival of Trees. We will also be going on shopping trips and some evening scenic rides to see the Christmas light displays. The Girl scouts will be coming to carol, and we have ballet dancers visiting to demonstrate their art.
The oven will get its workout with all the baking that will be going on. Crafting and decorating will be a high priority this month with Christmas right at our doorstep.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday! It really is a special time of year!
