January Recap:
Where has our winter been?I am sure many of you are thinking the same thing. If you get a chance to look, the daffodils are up about 4 inches by the front door entrance of the Terrace. It won’t be long!
The month of January seemed to fly. We were treated to musical concerts by Monica B., Touch of Joy, Bobby Magee, and Ray Braselton. We have started a Thursday Movie Matinee. The Residents have enjoyed more current releases such as “The Help” and “Dolphin Tail”. It has been a really popular activity.
On January 16, we remembered Dr. Martin Luther King by reading parts of his auto biography, especially the “I have A Dream” speech. It was very moving to hear it its entirety.
During January we shopped at Wal-Mart and the large JoAnne Fabrics store in Canandaigua. (We will be doing lots of Valentine’s in February.) We also went out for dinner, and had a great scenic ride to the Sodus area. We talked about returning in the spring to see the apple blossoms.
We celebrated many birthdays in January. In particular Red D., who turned 94 yrs. Red is the oldest living WWII veteran in Wayne County. A story about Red was featured on WHAM Channel 13’s “Bright Spot.” Red & his family were also featured on the front page of the Wayne Post. Congratulations Red and thank you for your service. You truly are one of “The Greatest Generation.”
We would also like to congratulate Ed & Doris K., on 71 years of marriage. They were also featured in the Wayne Post. Ed says the secret to their long marriage is…..solving their problems before going to bed at night.
Lastly, we would like to let everyone know about the new pool table in the C wing living room. The residents have been having a great time shooting pool. Others are having a good time simply watching. Feel free to join in on the fun.

December Recap:
It certainly is festive here at the Newark Terrace. We have been enjoying the holiday season even though the weather sometimes reminds us of spring.
We started December by being entertained by “Touch of Joy”. As the month progressed, we kept the holiday spirit going by listening to “John Dapeno”, Ray Braselton and Carol Grant and Monica.
We visited the Granger Homestead in Canandaigua (several times!), to view “The Festival of Trees”. Over 100 decorated trees and wreaths were on display. We plan on visiting again next year and maybe even displaying a tree from “The Newark Terrace.”
The studio for the Performing Arts danced for us on Sunday Dec.18th. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts dropped by with carols, cards, and ornaments. We have a lot of talented young people here in Newark.
Many homes in the area are beautifully lit & decorated up this time of the year, and we really enjoyed ourselves on our trips to see “Local Lights”. We even shared some good laughs at some over the top light displays.
Christmas would not be the same without Christmas cookies. On December 21st we were proud to deliver a plate of “homemade” Christmas cookies and fudge to every resident here at the Terrace. Our oven has been very busy over the past 2 weeks! There were lots of smiles, and happy faces when our own Santa, Dick S. appeared at each door with a plate of goodies. Speaking of Santa, on Sunday Dec. 11th, our 65 family members and guests came for our Holiday Party. Santa was on hand to hear wishes, and spread holiday cheer to all of our residents. Thank you all for coming and bringing your beautiful children & grandchildren. It was a treat for everyone.

December looks to be very busy. We will be visiting the Granger Homestead in Canandaigua for The Festival of Trees. We will also be going on shopping trips and some evening scenic rides to see the Christmas light displays. The Girl scouts will be coming to carol, and we have ballet dancers visiting to demonstrate their art.
The oven will get its workout with all the baking that will be going on. Crafting and decorating will be a high priority this month with Christmas right at our doorstep.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday! It really is a special time of year!

We look forward to November, and the upcoming holiday season. We are planning a lot of baking, arts and crafts and scrap-booking. A trip to the “Woman’s Hall of Fame” in Seneca Falls and a girls and boys night out at a local restaurant and possibly a movie or shopping after is planned. Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I hope you all enjoy the remainder of our fall season. We live in a beautiful part of our country. If you have any concerns or ideas about activities, please feel free to stop in and see me. – Gigi

JULY RECAP
The big event for the month was our luau. With the help of our residents Stephanie decorated the living room with lighted palm trees, tiki’s and mylar fish. Entertainment was provided with an Hawaiian twist. Fun was had by all. The residents also took 2 trips to ice cream shops in the area. The “Chill and Grill’ in Palmyra and Spanky Oliver’s in Lyons. With all of the hot weather we have been having the residents really enjoyed this cool treat. The Terrace also provided popsicles during the hot weather to help keep our residents cool and comfortable.
The garden continues to do well. We have already provided the kitchen with radishes. We do have a few small peppers, tomatoes, and peas. Hopefully soon the kitchen will be provided with an abundance of fresh vegetables.
The Terrace and residents had to say goodbye to our Activities Director “Stephanie”. A small party with cake and a gift was presented to her on Monday, July 25, 2011.
